Windrush Day takes place on 22 June, marking the moment that the SS Empire Windrush arrived at Tilbury Docks in 1948, bringing the first Caribbean migrants to the UK to help rebuild Britain after the Second World War.
Windrush Day celebrates the incredible legacy of the Windrush generation, their contribution to British society, laying the foundation for Black British society as we know it today. The main aim of Windrush Day at Hollydale is to develop our children’s knowledge of world geography and history. Learning about The Windrush is great for improving children’s social and cultural understanding.
Children are invited to get creative by creating a model of HMT Empire Windrush. Whatever you do, be creative and let your imagination run free! You can use any media you like, but it must be 3D (three dimensional), for example paint, collage, pencil, clay or paper mache. Completed designs are to be handed in to your class teacher with your name and class on the back. Please label clearly with your Name class. Some research writing is expected for pupils in Y3-6. Enjoy.
All projects should be well presented and returned by: 6th July 2023
