Art at Hollydale
Art and DT are taught in half-term blocks and learning is linked to the wider topic theme to contextualise learning. Art and design stimulates creativity and imagination. It is concerned with the way we respond to, understand, interpret and shape our world through our senses and emotions. Taking part in art and design allows us to investigate what we see; to make visual responses; to interpret; to discriminate and reach decisions. Art and design has its own language based on the visual elements.
At Hollydale, we believe all children have the right to develop artistic awareness and acquire skills, knowledge and understanding to express individual ideas. We believe the appreciation and enjoyment of the visual arts enrich all our lives. Through learning about the roles and functions of art, the children can explore the impact it has had on contemporary life and that of different times and cultures. We aim to increase pupils’ first-hand experiences of art, craft and design through school visits to art galleries and other enrichment activities. Children are encouraged to use a wide variety of tools and materials for drawing, painting and creating imaginative and observational three dimensional work. As well as developing their own style they look at the work of other artists and explore the use of their techniques and media.
